A legal letter on deadline day
The post says the letter arrived last night and objects to the use of the Higgsfield name and its CEO's likeness, arguing that this makes the event look associated with the company. Comfy's reply, in the same post, is that the challenge is organised by ComfyUI, is not affiliated with or endorsed by Higgsfield, and stays up. The post also says Higgsfield promised to open-source its product and never did, which is Comfy's characterisation, not something we could check. A web search the same morning found coverage of the challenge itself but no report of the letter, so we have only one side. Meanwhile a r/comfyui thread argues from the opposite direction that calling every entry an "Open-Source Higgsfield" does the company's marketing for it.
The entries keep arriving regardless. In our sweep, OpenField, Phane, SameFace and Recast describe themselves as entries, and Director's Cut and seriesmith sit in the same space of open film-making tools. Most have a handful of stars at most, so read them as prototypes and look before you install. Recast's author says its video step uses Higgsfield's Genjutsu through Comfy Router, a reminder that "open" varies from entry to entry.
Splats get easier to make
The model card for Idol describes a single image becoming up to a million Gaussians, with a 7.2 GB VRAM peak and 6.8 seconds on an H100 for 262,144 Gaussians; its comparison table is the authors' own. A LichtFeld Studio plugin already wraps it. Around it, Niantic Spatial described using depth evidence to keep splat surfaces cleaner for robot training, Radix arrived as a WebGPU splat renderer for three.js, and Walk Into Memory turns a photo into a scene you can walk through on Apple Vision Pro. The common thread is shorter paths from one picture to something you can orbit.
Blender and the agent habit
StableGen's 0.4.0 demo is the clearest end-to-end example of the day: prompt, candidate images, TRELLIS.2 mesh, Qwen Image 2.1 texturing from every camera, PBR maps and an automatic rig, all inside Blender and running locally through ComfyUI. Smaller repos push the same idea from the agent side: blender-live keeps one headless Blender running for a coding agent to drive over MCP, Plastor asks an LLM to model creatures from model sheets, and words2world loops a Claude Code skill through Blender, ComfyUI and Unreal. The Halloween music video shows the same pattern in video, with an agent storyboarding, rendering and animating through a ComfyUI MCP server while the maker approved each step.
Video: speed, prices and an argument that will not settle
Rapid-H3's README claims 3 to 5 times faster MiniMax H3 on one DGX Spark, from about 600 seconds to about 117 for a 5.9-second clip with audio, by the author's own test. Pika H3 Flex, which we covered on 29 October, now has community comparisons against 10Eros and Singularity V2 and a fused four-step Turbo LoRA. Kling 4.0 against Seedance 2.5 kept filling the X list, with verdicts that point both ways: one filmmaker finds Kling too digital, another poster finds Kling richer in colour but Seedance better at following the prompt. Two sellers' posts quoted anywhere from $0.60 to $2.31 for a clip, depending on the model and the platform, which tells you more about the plan than about the model.
Design tools move into the model
Canva's announcement says Brush reads a design, writes and runs code to change it and inspects the page, and claims up to 69% faster and 46% cheaper edits than its previous agent; it is live for Canva Pro users. For developers, the Product Hunt listing for ilse describes clicking an element in a running React app and sending the change to a coding agent, and CopilotKit's standardUI offers a component catalog agents can render in chat. A cluster of brand-new skills for coding agents covers native iOS design, colour systems and chart critique, each with very few stars.
A security note for Claude Code users
Phorion's advisory, dated today, says version 2.1.313 of the Claude Code extension bundle on the Cursor marketplace contained injected code that adds an SSH key, opens a reverse tunnel and sets up persistence, and that removing the extension does not remove the backdoor. The advisory says the matching npm and VS Code releases were pulled. We have not seen a statement from the extension's maker, so if you installed that version, follow the advisory's remediation steps and watch the vendor's own notices.
What to watch
Entries close at 9 AM PT, so expect a final wave of challenge posts and, possibly, a response from Higgsfield. Reddit's move toward requiring an account could change how easily communities like r/comfyui and r/StableDiffusion can be read from outside, and our own sweep already hit rate limits on three other subreddits this morning.
Tell us what to dig into next: reply with a medium, a tool or a question and we'll steer tomorrow's sweep toward it.
