AI Design Daily: Tue Oct 20, 2026 (morning sweep)
Window: about 24 hours, from the morning of Oct 19 to the morning of Oct 20 (PT). Items marked ⏪ are a little older (Oct 13–18) and are here because they're trending in this window or got a real update. Every link was opened or returned by a tool. Engagement numbers were read on the morning of Oct 20 (PT) and will keep changing. Sources: X, YouTube, GitHub (trending, new repos and API), Hugging Face, Reddit (subreddit feeds), Product Hunt, Hacker News, and the web.
🔥 Try this today
- FLUX 3 Max: fal and Black Forest Labs' fast video model (fal): a post-trained FLUX 3 video model for text-to-video and image-to-video, 5 to 20 second clips at 720p or 1080p, with optional audio. fal says a 10-second clip takes about 12 seconds, against 277.80 seconds for Seedance 2.5 at the same 1,139 Elo on Artificial Analysis's preliminary image-to-video arena. Fast renders mean you can try many takes of one shot instead of settling for the first. Start: skim fal's prompting guide, then run one of your own stills through image-to-video at 5 seconds and 720p (fal lists it at 75% off until Nov 7) and reroll only the motion line.
- Helm: training-free "dials" for ComfyUI image and video models (GitHub): you run two prompts once, say "empty hall" and "packed hall", Helm records the difference inside the model as a file of about 22 KB, and one strength value then moves your image along that direction with the same prompt, seed and framing. The model's weights are never touched, and the author tested it on MiniMax H3 video and Z-Image Turbo (r/comfyui post). Start: install the node pack, record one direction from two contrasting prompts on a seed you already like, then sweep the strength in small steps.
- Free ComfyUI templates for local songs with YuE2 and MiniMax Music 3 (r/comfyui): a local LLM turns a short song brief into style, lyrics and an ABC score, a Song Sheet node lets you edit and approve all three before anything renders, then YuE2 renders the song with EQ, loudness and FLAC/MP3 export. The workflow is embedded in the FLAC, so dropping it back onto ComfyUI continues the song (templates on GitHub). Start: update ComfyUI so the native YuE2 nodes load, open the YuE2 Song graph, write a one-line brief, and fix the lyrics on the Song Sheet before you approve the run.
🖼️ Image and visual
- MOSS-Image learns to colour manga pages (sorryhyun, Hugging Face), repo/tool. - Stop MiniMax H3 from burning subtitles into talking scenes (Justlora, Hugging Face), repo/tool. A LoRA plus a prompt rule: wrap each spoken line in
<d>dialogue tags with no quotation marks inside, because quotes tend to trigger on-screen text. The author calls it experimental and says to expect occasional bugs. - A camera-motion LoRA for MiniMax H3 (Hugging Face), repo/tool. Start prompts with "camera motion". The card rates push-ins, pull-backs and handheld tracking strongest and pans weakest, and suggests a strength of 0.8–1.0.

🗣️ What people are talking about
- A wave of same-prompt tests: Seedance 2.0 vs Kling 4.0 vs MiniMax H3 (@kate_osita_), buzz. Video. Several near-identical posts went up within minutes of each other (fruit-juice ad, fashion editorial) and all favour H3. Read them as a campaign, not independent tests.
